Our faculty and students study the comparative politics and international relations of the Middle East and North Africa. Northwestern faculty have worked on a range of topics, including social movements, political violence, emigration, regime transitions, and the politics of secularism and religious freedom. They have conducted research in or about Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Iran, Israel, the Palestinian territories, Syria, and Turkey.
