Our Initiatives
Globalizing Race Studies Workshop: The Center sponsors an annual, two-day workshop that examines a theme related to the global dimension of racial politics. The workshop is a shared initiative with the Center for Global Culture and Communication in Northwestern's School of Communication.
Strengthening Diverse Democracies Symposium: The Center sponsors an annual event where its affiliates join with visiting speakers and other members of the Northwestern community to discuss a current issue in the politics of diversity within democracies.
Grants for Faculty Projects on Diversity and Democracy: The Center provides funding for selected faculty projects on the politics of diversity.
Short-Term Research Funding for Dissertation Writers: The Center provides a limited number of small grants—between $500.00 to $1,500.00—to dissertation writers working on diversity issues to use for activities like site visits, transcription services, the purchase of statistical software, etc.
Polling and Data Initiative: The Center funds periodic and flash surveys on questions related to the politics of diversity in the United States. The scholarly interests and research needs of the Center’s affiliates will determine the content of these surveys. The Center will release occasional papers and reports based on the findings of these surveys. The Center also maintains a data archive based on the findings from these surveys.
